The Indianapolis Colts have had a series of tough breaks as of late and they just got tougher with the news that head coach Chuck Pagano has been diagnosed with a “serious illness.”
Pagano has been diagnosed with leukemia and is currently in isolation for six weeks at an Indianapolis hospital. ESPN reports that the illness is ” treatable,” but Pagano’s treatment will have a significant impact on the Cotls organization, causing him to miss several weeks of the 2012 season.
Taking his place on the field during Pagano’s absence will be offensive coordinator Bruce Arians. Pagano’s illness was discovered when a series of blood tests the 52-year old coach had conducted during the bye week to explore his extreme fatigue uncovered the fact that he has leukemia.
Per IndyStar.com, a top executive with the Colts said that, despite the seriousness of the situation, ““we’re very optimistic about his recovery.” Indianapolis will have a press conference on Monday morning to address the situation in full.
