Many U.S. Olympic teammates will experience a glorious return to the States after the conclusion of the games in London. U.S. judo fighter Nick Delpopolo is not one of them.

The 23-year old athlete failed a drug test and was ordered to leave the games. Delpopolo says that he didn’t actually smoke marijuana–it was hidden inside of something he ate.

Ah, the ole, “I didn’t inhale.”  In a letter to the U.S. Olympic Committee, Delpopolo said that the failed test was”caused by my inadvertent consumption of food that I did not realize had been baked with marijuana.” Delpopolo went on to say how he embarrassed he was in his letter to the USOC.

The excuse is so weak that it probably is true. What an inglorious way to leave the Olympics.
