Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis wants his team’s full focus on football during training camp. And to his mind, that means banning the use of Twitter for players currently on his roster.

Lewis admits that he’s not the most tech savvy guy, but feels that he has already seen an adverse impact from the medium on his team. “I think people have to have the maturity and the wherewithal to be able to handle it. Thus far, what I have experienced since April is we don’t have the maturity to handle it. I don’t see how tweeting is going to help us win a football game.”

The Twitter ban comes after Bengals rookie corner Dre Kirkpatrick took to Twitter to confirm a knee injury.

The decision was made by the coach consultation with team leaders who, like Lewis, saw no value in permitting players to tweet during camp.

Lewis says that a decision has not yet been reached for the regular season.
