Terrell Owens return to the NFL looks more unlikely everyday, and now the former NFL Pro Bowl receiver could face jail time if he does not pay child support.

According to Erica Byfield of WSBTV.com Owens owes $20,000 in child support payments and may face jail time.

Terrell did not show up to his child support hearing in Fulton County on Thursday and judge John Gorger was upset.

The mother of Owen’s 7-year-old daughter Melanie Smith says he has not paid child support in months.  Owens was suppose to pay Smith $5,000 per month.

“It’s a tragedy, not only that we are here today. This is the third case she has had to file in the last year,” Smith’s attorney Randy Kessler told WSB.

Owens’ attorney David Hartin took responsibility for his client’s absence blaming poor communication. The judge called in both Smith’s attorney Randy Kessler and Owens’ attorney David Hartin into his chambers and when they returned a July 19 court date was set, and if Owens did not show up he could face jail time.
