Legendary Soccer Player Diego Maradona was fired as coach of Dubai’s Al Wasl on Tuesday following a season in which the soccer club finished in eighth place in a 12-team league. The club’s board of directors met Tuesday and released a statement, saying it has “decided to terminate his services and his technical staff.”
Maradona, who led Argentina to the 1986 World Cup title, signed a two year deal in May 2011 following his firing as the national coach of Argentina. Upon his arrival, there was great expectations that have not been fulfilled even though he was popular with fans and helped give attention to United Arab Emirates soccer.
