Motivated by the 9//11 attacks, Pat Tillman, a defensive back for the Arizona Cardinals gave up a $3.6 million contract to join the Army Rangers in 2002. Tillman was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2004. In this day and age, it may seem out of the norm for athletes to serve, but during World War II, over 1000 NFL players/personal served . They included greats like Lou Groza, Sid Luckman, Marv Levy and Art Donovan.  During Vietnam, more greats including Charlie Joiner and Roger Staubach served. While they all made it back and went on to have glorious NFL careers,  great athletes like Bob Neighbors, Bob Kalsu, Elmer Gedeon and Eddie Grant were unfortunately killed. We take this time to honor these athletes and also the other citizens that have died serving this country. With this, we leave you with the “Leave No Man Behind” track by Hans Zimmer from the Black Hawk Down Soundtrack.
